Resulta que los tipos de Manchinma nos han preparado un documental en video sobre la historia de tan venerado estudio como es id Software

Of the many successful game developers out there, one stands out both for the quality of its games and the advances it made in producing game engines and content no one else could. That developer is id Software and the very memorable technical and creative pairing of John Carmack and John Romero.

While playing all of id Software's games is an enjoyable experience, learning about the company's history is arguably just as entertaining. Having read the book Masters of Doom: How Two Guys Created an Empire and Transformed Pop Culture several times, I can highly recommend it to anyone interested in working in the games industry or just interested in how id Software came to be. There is no better reference.

But for those who don't have time to read a 368-page book, or probably more for the younger generations who grew up with YouTube as a major source of information, Machinima has produced a series of videos about id.

The series seems to be a work in progress with only the first two parts available. However, it's well worth checking out if you want a visual history of one of the most important games developers of the past two decades.

While I will always recommend the book over the videos, this documentary does have a few benefits that make it worth watching. For example, you actually get to see Dangerous Dave in Copyright Infringement being played. That is the demo put together by John Carmack and Tom Hall showing scrolling in a PC game for the first time. It's also the demo that blew John Romero away and laid the foundation for the company that became id Software being created.
